Known as Africa’s most Shazam-ed DJ, Akio is an internationally recognized DJ and one of South Africa’s most influential contributors to the culture. Akio is known for his diverse track selection blending Hip Hop, R&B, Afrobeat, Kwaito, Jazz, Funk, and Future Beats. Having held resident status at clubs in Japan, the Netherlands, and South Africa, Akio always finds a way to connect with the crowd.

“I have been always looking for a certain turbulence of the cutting-edge vibe in the clubs. It comes from the fusion Soul music, and fusion itself. The form of it could be a beautiful melody, or purely just some kind of bass rhythm. You may get some familiarity, but it must be unfamiliar at the same time. My pieces are the intermediate state of the passively-sought fusion, and they are my odes to my current and future life.
Great enthusiasm for old school music and vinyl digging culture led MMQ into vinyl collecting, beats making and DJing at an early age. His constant motivation to be a DJ comes from his desire to share his knowledge of music and to present memorable sonic soundscapes to the audience. Based on hiphop and other music of black origin, MMQ’s creative sets blend various music styles and genres to make people feel the groove.
