In the 1970's, Jamaican reggae producers like King Tubby and Lee Scratch Perry started using the recording studio in new ways -- experimenting with song structures, sound effects, and recording techniques.   In the 1980s, UK producers like Mad Professor popularized the dub sound, influencing post-punk and pop musicians.
